FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Q - I am interested in one of your dogs - what do I do now?

A - You will need to fill out an application form which can be found under our Applications page.  Please fill in the form with as much detail as possible to help match you with your dog.

Q - What happens after filling in the form?

A - If your application is successful one of our Adoption Coordinators will be in touch with you.  Usually this is within a couple of days. Please remember though that we are all volunteers and have our own families, work and dogs. If your application is unsuccessful we will let you know.

Q - What are your fees?

A - We ask for a contribution to your adoption.  Currently this is £495.  This includes all tests (including Brucellosis) and vaccines, microchip, passport and transport from Romania to your door (Transport to Scotland will be an additional £20).  Your dog will also be neutered if it is old enough.

Q - Will I get to meet my dog before it arrives in the UK?

A - Unfortunately not as our dogs are in Romania.  We will however keep you informed of your dogs progress and send you regular photos.

Q - Will I know the full history of the dog?

A - As most of the dogs are found abandoned it is highly unlikely you would ever know the full history of the dog.

Q - What support do you offer?

A - You will be assigned an Adoption Coordinator who will work closely with you.  They are there to answer any questions you may have.

Q - Do you have an age policy?

A - Yes we do, we will not home an animal to anyone under the age of 25. As a general rule we will only place a dog in a home with children over 7 years.  When filling out an application please include any previous experience etc to help us get a better understanding of you.

Q  -  My child has lots of experience with dogs and has grown up with them - why can't we adopt?

A - Dogs in Romania are often abused by children too.  Often it is about what a dog can cope with.   Puppies mouth and nip - it is their way of communicating.  All too often this behaviour is described as being aggressive and has lead to dogs being placed in emergency foster, again letting the dog down.

Q - Can I adopt a specific breed.  I would love a Labrador.

A - All our dogs are Mixed breeds.  We often do not know the breed of a dogs parents.

Q - I want a small dog, can you guarantee this?

A - In short the answer is no!  Pups are often found with no parents to give us an indication.  If mother is present we can only go on her size - the father may have been small terrier size or likewise could have been Great Dane size.  We simply can make a guess.  Size is also open to interpretation.  What one person may call medium, another may call small and another person may say large.  If size is important to you, you may be better looking at a rescue closer to home where you can meet the dog beforehand.

Q - How do the dogs get here?

A - The dogs travel via a professional transporter.  The journey takes around 2 days although sometimes they do face delays.

Q - Are the dogs house trained?

A - Many of the dogs live outside and have never been in a home before.  You need to be aware of this and be prepared to give your dog patience and the training they need.  We will of course be there to support you.

Q - What is a Home Check?

A - A home check is the next stage of a successful application.  It is where we find out more about you and make sure you are fully prepared to take on the responsibility of a Romanian rescue dog.  We currently do the Home checks via video call due to the current Covid situation.  Your Adoption coordinator will be able to give you more details regarding this

We hope that this answers some of your questions but please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you would like further details.
